Lagos shuts down illegal COVID-19 lab in Ikoyi

A private laboratory in the Ikoyi area of Lagos state running Covid-19 tests without the required government approval has been shut down by the Lagos State Government.

It was gathered that Acouns Medical Laboratory and Diagnostic Centre was situated in a pharmacy on Banana Island.

According to the state’s Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, the outlet was closed on Friday.

It added, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that health facilities in the state adhere strictly to standards to guarantee the health and well being of Lagosians.

“Members of the public are encouraged to cooperate fully with the Lagos State Government to ensure the safety and health of all even as we strive to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Lagos.”

“Citizens are advised to desist from patronising health facilities not accredited by the Lagos state government or management of COVID-19 cases as this poses danger to the community and staff of such facilities”.

  1. Good move to shut it down. However, Government should reconsider partnering with qualified private hospital in fighting this pandemic.

  2. I think it is a good idea to shut it down for no one knows if the are really doing the right thing but however government should support private hospitals that have capacity to carry out tests because government alone can not fight this pandemic alone but our collective efforts will surely yield positive results.
